The Museum of East Texas offers FREE group tours for educators and community groups of all kinds.

 

Whether you’re bringing a classroom, homeschool group, daycare, specialty group, or adult care facility, we’re excited to welcome you to the museum!

A visit to the MET is more than a chance to see beautiful artwork. It’s an opportunity for students to slow down, look closely, build vocabulary, think critically, and communicate their ideas.

​

As students explore the galleries, our docents encourage them to truly notice the details in front of them. What do you see? What do you notice? What makes you think that? Students practice making observations, describing what they see, making connections, and supporting their ideas with evidence.

​

Along the way, students encounter rich vocabulary related to art, artists, materials, techniques, and ideas. These conversations help build skills that extend far beyond the museum walls—close observation, vocabulary development, critical thinking, listening, and communication.

And, of course, we believe learning should include a chance to create! Every student field trip includes a hands-on art project to take home, giving students the opportunity to take what they’ve seen and discussed and turn it into something of their own.

About Our Tours

Our docent-guided tours are designed to engage visitors with the museum’s current exhibitions and make meaningful connections to the artwork. Tours incorporate several Texas Fine Arts TEKS and are tailored to the age and needs of each group.

​

School field trips are approximately two hours and include a guided museum experience followed by a hands-on art project in our Education Room.

​

Tours can accommodate up to 80 students. Picnic blankets are available for groups who would like to enjoy lunch on the museum plaza.
