Fall 2026 Field Trips

Class Description

Help your students discover that art is more than something we look at—it's a way of seeing, thinking, and telling stories. During this interactive STEAM + LIT field trip, students will explore abstract landscapes by featured artist Winter Rusiloski, compare them with East Texas scenes created by members of the Lufkin Art Guild, explore community with Emmi Hasselbach and celebrate the Museum of East Texas's 50-year history. Through guided discussions, students will strengthen observation, critical thinking, and communication skills while making connections between visual art, local history, science, mathematics, and language arts. Using the delightful picture book "Don't Think of Tigers" by Alex Latimer, students will discover how imagination fuels creativity and learn that there is no single "right" way to see the world. The experience concludes with a hands-on art project inspired by the exhibitions, allowing each student to create a personal landscape using the artistic concepts they've explored. This field trip supports multiple Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Fine Arts, English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, making it an engaging cross-curricular learning experience that encourages curiosity, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for the world around them. Students will observe, describe, interpret, and respond to artworks while creating their own work inspired by the exhibits. Fall Field Trip spots are available Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings, 10:00am-12:00pm. These times may be adjusted slightly to accomodate the class's schedule.
