Sept 3, 4-5pm | Grades 3-5
Class Description
Class Title: Animals at Work Date: Tuesday, September 3 Time: 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM Grade Level: 3rd - 5th Grade Cost: $8 per class Supplies: All supplies provided Join us for an exciting afterschool art class designed for young artists in 3rd to 5th grade! This September, we'll explore the fascinating world of art and animals. Students will dive into drawing, clay, and watercolor basics, and learn a little art history along the way. No experience or prior art knowledge required! Classes will start promptly at 4pm, when you are able to drop off your child and pick them up by 5pm. In this particular class, "Animals at Work," students will learn to identify elements within a piece of art by exploring an ancient terracotta figurine of a camel carrying transport amphorae. They'll discuss the role of animals in ancient communities and how artists conveyed these roles. Inspired by the historical example, students will brainstorm an animal that plays a significant role in their own community. We'll guide them through clay basics, including rolling, scoring, and combining pieces of clay, as well as using slip to join them. Each student will then create their own clay sculpture of the chosen animal, bringing their ideas to life. With time permitting, students will share the animals they made with their other artist classmates. Don't miss this opportunity for your young artist to learn new skills, express their creativity, and have fun with fellow art enthusiasts!
